Settings → AI
Settings → AI is the owner's section of Settings for the store's AI: one switch for the whole store, and the daily summary, a short brief of how yesterday went at your store that waits for you in the app each morning. AI is included in every plan. Nothing on this page costs extra, and it never shows a price.
Overview
- Open it: Settings, then AI in the rail (between Lost sales and Team), or the address
/settings?tab=ai. The older address/settings/aiopens it too. It used to be a page of its own, AI Settings, in the sidebar's Sales group; that sidebar item is gone. - Who gets in: the people Settings opens for: the store's owner (the Owner switch on), anyone with the owner role and the store's only active member. Anyone else sees "Redirecting..." and lands on Shortcuts.
- Who can change it: the Owner switch or the owner role. Anyone else the page lets in sees every control greyed out, with "Only the store owner can change AI settings." and, under the Daily summary card, "To turn AI features off, or back on, for yourself only: Your AI features".
- What's on it: two cards. AI for this store holds the store's switch. Daily summary holds the summary's own switch, Send at (the hour it arrives) and Who receives it.
- What saves when: everything, the moment you change it. A green line in the card confirms each save; a red one says why a save did not go through.
AI for this store
One switch for the whole store, On unless you turn it off.
- Off stops the daily summary at once, and AI features leave your own screen straight away. Other people (and any other tab you have open) stop seeing them when they next open another page or come back to UpChannels (within a minute), or reload: a page left open and untouched keeps what it shows until then. Everything else in UpChannels works exactly as before.
- On brings them back, on the same timing. If your send hour has already passed and today's summary was not made while AI was off, it arrives within the hour, unless your store's summary was set up only today, after that hour. If AI was switched off in the few minutes after the send hour, while the summary was being made, today's summary may have been skipped, and a skipped summary never comes later: the next one comes at the next send hour. If AI was off when the daily summary reached your store, its summary was never set up: switching AI on sets it up within the hour, and the first summary comes at the first send hour after that, usually the next morning.
Two lines can appear above the switch:

The daily summary
The daily summary is a short brief of how yesterday went at your store, in the app each morning. It never goes out by email or text message. What it holds and where it shows (the bottom of the Quick Facts page, the inbox icon at the bottom of the sidebar and Insights): Daily brief.
Until UpChannels switches the daily summary on for your store, the Daily summary card says "The daily summary is not switched on for your store yet." and has no controls. Once it is on:
- The switch turns the summary on or off for the whole store, On unless you turn it off. Off: no summary is made for anyone until you switch it back on. Summaries already sent are kept, but while the summary is off they are hidden for everyone: the Quick Facts line, the inbox icon and the Insights archive. Switching it back on shows them again. If AI or the summary was switched off in the few minutes after a send hour, while the summary was being made, that morning's summary may have been skipped, and a skipped summary never comes later, even if you switch the summary back on or move Send at: the next one comes at the next send hour.
- Send at is the hour it arrives, in your store's time, 7:00 am unless you change it. It is ready a few minutes after the hour. A new hour counts from the next hourly check: if it has already passed today and today's summary has not been made, it arrives within the hour, unless your store's summary was set up only today, after that hour: the first summary then comes at that hour tomorrow. Each day is summarised only once, so moving the hour never brings the same day twice. A later hour can bring the summary of an earlier day that was never made (the day after your store's summary was set up, or a day AI or the summary was off at the send hour): that morning you then get two, each naming the day it covers. Neither comes for a morning that was skipped: if AI or the summary was switched off in the few minutes after a send hour, while the summary was being made, that morning's summary may have been skipped, and a skipped summary never comes later, whatever hour you move Send at to.
- Who receives it:
- Owners always receive it: everyone with the Owner switch or the owner role. The card names them.
- All managers on: every manager receives it, including managers you add later.
- With All managers off, tick the managers who should receive it.
- Staff don't receive the daily summary yet. Briefs for staff arrive with role views.
- People switched off or removed in Team, and anyone who turned off Show me AI features for themselves, get no summary.
On the day the daily summary reaches your store, Send at and Who receives it may say "Setting up" for a few minutes and can't be changed yet. Reload the page a few minutes later. If AI for this store is off then, or UpChannels has paused AI for your store, they say "Setting up" until AI is on again, and then for up to an hour. A send hour that had already passed when the summary was set up brings nothing that day, even if you move Send at to it or switch AI or the summary off and back on: the first summary comes at the first send hour after it was set up, usually the next morning.
Show me AI features (your own choice)
Each person can turn AI features off for themselves, without changing anything for anyone else. Managers and staff included.
- Where: Your AI features, at
/ai/me, a page everyone in your store can open, whatever Settings and Menu Visibility allow them. Owners also find the same switch in Settings → Primary User, in the AI block under their profile (/settings?tab=user). The switch appears once UpChannels has switched the daily summary on for your store, while AI is on for your store and not paused. - On, the default: you get the daily summary when your store sends it to you, and its card, inbox icon and archive show for you.
- Off: you get no daily summary, and its card, inbox icon and archive are hidden for you. Turn it back on there at any time.
- It saves the moment you flip it, on its own: in Settings, Save Primary User Profile is not needed.
- A manager who doesn't want the daily summary turns this off on Your AI features. The owner can also take them off Who receives it, which stops their summary; the switch is the manager's own.
Tips & best practices
- Set your Business Timezone first (Settings → Organization). The send hour and "yesterday" follow it. A store with no time zone set uses UTC, so a 7:00 am summary arrives at 7:00 am UTC.
- Pick an hour before you open, so the summary is waiting when you arrive.
- To stop only the summary, use the Daily summary switch and leave AI for this store on.
- Every manager, or a few: All managers covers managers you add later as well. Tick names instead when only some managers should get it.

How the switches combine
A person gets the daily summary on a morning only when all of these hold:
- UpChannels has switched the daily summary on for your store.
- UpChannels has not paused AI, for your store or for every store.
- AI for this store is on.
- The Daily summary switch is on.
- The person is an owner, or a manager on Who receives it, and is active in Team.
- Their own Show me AI features is on.
- The send hour has come in your store's time zone, and came after your store's summary was set up.
- Your store is open that morning by the confirmed opening hours of its main location (your oldest active one): the hours answered on the opening-hours card at the top of the owner's brief, or set on that location in Settings → Locations (a save of it confirms the hours it shows, unless they are setup's Monday to Saturday 9 to 5 left as it was). Hours never confirmed either way close nothing, and another location's hours never do. A morning your store is closed has no summary, and the next morning it is open brings one that covers the closed days too.
Turning any one of 1 to 6 off stops the summary for the people it covers: 1 to 4 for the whole store, 5 and 6 for one person. Nothing else in UpChannels changes.
Common questions
Does AI cost extra? No. AI is included in every plan, and this page never shows a price.
Can the summary come by email or text message? No. It is in the app only.
Which time zone is the hour in? Your store's Business Timezone (Settings → Organization). A store without one uses UTC.
I moved the hour. Will I get two summaries today? Never two for the same day: each day is summarised only once. If the new hour has already passed and today's summary has not been made, it arrives within the hour, unless your store's summary was set up only today, after that hour: the first summary then comes at that hour tomorrow. A later hour can also bring the summary of an earlier day that was never made, such as the day after your store's summary was set up: that morning you get two, each naming the day it covers. I switched AI back on in the afternoon. Do I get today's summary? Yes, within the hour, if it was not made while AI was off, unless your store's summary was set up only today, after the send hour. If AI was switched off in the few minutes after the send hour, while the summary was being made, today's summary may have been skipped, and a skipped summary never comes later. The same goes for the Daily summary switch: if the summary was switched off in the few minutes after the send hour, while it was being made, today's summary may have been skipped then, and the next one comes at the next send hour. If AI was off when the daily summary reached your store, the summary is first set up when you switch AI on, and the first one comes at the next send hour after that: the next morning.
I switched AI back on early in the morning, and two summaries arrived. Why? The one your store missed the morning before, while AI was off, arrives within the hour of switching back on (unless your store's summary was set up only that day, after the send hour, or it was skipped because AI was switched off in the few minutes after the send hour, while it was being made), and today's comes at your send hour as usual. Each names the day it covers. The same goes for the Daily summary switch, with the same exceptions: if the summary was switched off in the few minutes after the send hour, while it was being made, the missed one may have been skipped then, and a skipped summary never comes later: that morning brings only today's.
Does switching AI off hide Ask AI at the bottom of the sidebar? No. Ask AI is the help assistant that answers questions about using UpChannels. It is not one of your store's AI features, so it stays.
What happens to summaries already sent when I turn the summary off? They are kept, but while the summary is off they are hidden for everyone: the Quick Facts line, the inbox icon and the Insights archive (the Insights address opens Ads Insights). Switching it back on shows them again. The same goes for AI for this store.
Can staff get the daily summary? Not yet. Briefs for staff arrive with role views.
A manager doesn't want the summary. Can they turn it off themselves?
Yes: on Your AI features (/ai/me), which every member can open, with Show me AI features. They then get no summary, and its card, inbox icon and archive are hidden for them; nothing changes for anyone else, and they can turn it back on there.
